The Scarlet-chested Sunbird (Chalcomitra senegalensis) is a small, 6" (15cm) bird, found in Western Kenyan gardens, favouring aloes and flowering bushes. Also seen in woodlands, savanna and cultivated areas.
The Scarlet-chested Sunbird is very similar to Hunter's Sunbird. Both have irridescent green malar stripes, but only the Scarlet-chested Sunbird features the same green continuing under the upper throat. While Hunter's Sunbird features irridescent purple shoulder patches.
Sunbirds are nectar-feeders, that are always on the move. Their irridescent colours change, according to the light.
