Red-collared Widowbirds (Euplectes ardens) are a small bird, 5" (12.5cm). They are fairly common in Kenya and can be readily seen in areas surrounding open grassland.

The male, during the breeding cycle, is transformed from a buff-coloured bird, into a black colour, with long tails and become 10" (25cm).
